Vasanthakumar Gopala Pillai — Raju to the trade — apprenticed inside Kollam's cashew quarter for nearly thirty years before opening Souparnika Export Enterprises in 2008. Today the house ships nine grades from a single proprietary ledger, with every consignment passing through hands he has personally trained.
The result is a deliberately small house with an outsized standard. No middleman, no rebrand, no surprises in the carton.
Raw cashew nut (RCN) procured from trusted Kollam-belt suppliers and selected African origins, lot-tagged on arrival.
Origin · KL + WAFRCN is sun-dried on cement floors to bring moisture below the steaming threshold and tighten the shell.
Moisture < 12%Saturated steam at controlled pressure softens the shell and protects the kernel inside.
Boiler · 100°C +Cut by hand or semi-automatic shell-cutter — Kollam's signature step, where whole-kernel yield is decided.
Whole yield · target 90%+Kernels are dried in chambers, then the testa is peeled off — by hand for premium whites, mechanically for volume.
Hand-peeled · W180–W320Kernels are sorted by colour and counted into one of nine industry grades — W180 through W450, scorched, splits, pieces.

Cashew shelling can't be automated — it lives or dies on skilled hands, and in Kollam those hands are overwhelmingly women's. Souparnika supports a workforce of over 2,000 people, with a deliberate focus on women's employment and the economic independence that comes with it.
